The Future of

Forestry &  Agriculture Hackathon

A 24-hour competition to generate innovative projects for the industries that drive our rural economy.

  • FREE to participate, your expertise, a laptop & we’ll supply the rest
  • Collaborate in 3-5 person teams to develop an innovative idea
  • Free food, cash and prizes!

The Prompt:

In Vermont, what does the future of the forestry industry look like?

A Hackathon…

Brings together teams that compete to spontaneously develop (“hack”) solutions to a specific problem over a brief, intense period of time.

How It Works:

On Friday night, teams will assemble and spend the next 24 hours working to ideate, refine, and develop a project that could transform the forestry and agriculture industries in Vermont. After an all-nighter and solid day of work, each team will present their project to a panel of judges who will determine the winners and award prizes.

We are encouraging diversity of background in our hackathon teams. You don’t need to be tech savvy to participate, although each team will be required to have one technical person involved who can help deliver a technical aspect to your project. See FAQ’s below for more information about team formation.

All work must be done at the event. We don’t expect the project to be fully functional by Saturday evening, but we want to be able to see your idea in the form of a prototype.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a team to sign up?

Not at all! If your team isn’t ready to go, you can sign up as an individual, or with a partial team. Before the hackathon begins, we will ensure everyone is a part of a team.

    How much does it cost?

It’s FREE to participate. Many thanks to our sponsor for making this possible!

I’m not tech savvy. Can I still be on a team?

Absolutely! In fact, we want teams to include a diverse set of backgrounds and experiences.

    Will food be provided?

We will provide food, snacks, and drinks for you throughout the weekend, free of charge. Please note any special arrangements or dietary restrictions on your application, so we can make sure to get you something you can enjoy.

Do I have to stay up all night?

It’s up to your team. You can choose to stay all night to work on a solution, or take intermittent naps.

How many people can be on a team?

Teams are limited to a maximum of 5 people, but we recommend teams of between 3 to 4.

    Are there prizes?

Yes. The judges will choose a winning project, and there will also be a “hackers-choice” award, where participants get to pick their favorite project. We’ll announce prizes soon, and they will be awesome!
